Parasaurolophus was a herbivore and ate a wide variety of vegetation, some as high as 13 feet off the ground. Researchers estimate that the Parasaurolophus was around 9.5 metres (31 feet) in length, weighed around 2.7 tons, and could walk on two legs or four. One of the most notable features of a Parasaurolophus is their long, curved cranial crest, that extended back and pointed down towards their shoulders. There has been much debate about the functions of the crest but these days most scientists agree that it helped Parasaurolophus identify male and females, increased hearing ability (acoustic resonance) and also helped regulate body temperature (thermoregulation). They lived about 76 to 73 million years ago - in the late cretaceous period. This was at the same time as the meat eaters Albertosaurus and Velociraptors.
This Parasaurolophus punches above its weight in terms of its striking appearance. It will be sure to stand out and attract attention. It is suitable for all gardens. Try placing this one in a Jurassic style garden along with some cycads and ferns - it will look amazing! Several of our clients have more than one variety of our dinosaurs and have created their own Jurassic Park style dinosaur world at their homes to great effect.
